H U R R Y

H u r r y

The philosopher Dallas Willard once called hurry “the great enemy of spiritual life in our day,” and urged followers of Jesus to “ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.”

We live in a culture of hurry where there never seems to be enough time to do all the things on our calendar and every night ends with open checkboxes on our to-do lists. In our efforts to keep up with our schedules and the pace of our culture, the cost can often be the things that actually give us life.

This page is full of resources to help us as we examine our lives and our schedules to see if hurry is actually making our lives less than what Jesus intended for us.

The first resources seen below are daily practices & exercises designed to help us eliminate hurry. There are four sections; we will be releasing a new section every two weeks. The first is the practice of Silence & Solitude. The second is Sabbath. The third is Simplicity. And the final is Slowing.

Helpful Resources

Eliminating hurry from our lives isn't easy, but we believe it's worth it.
Below are just a few resources we've put together that you might find helpful as you begin the process.

Busyness Indicator

Take time to read through the busyness indicator and reflect. There's no obligation to share your results with anyone else—this indicator is simply a tool that we can use to examine our behavior.

Time Tracker

This tracker isn't meant to make us feel guilt or shame over how we spend our time. Its purpose is to make us aware of how we spend the hours we're given. And it's a great starting point in the journey of eliminating hurry.

A Prayer of Abiding

God.

I am here

and I need you.

I am physical and I am spiritual.

As much as my body needs oxygen to breathe and water to sustain me, my innermost being needs your divine presence.

In the midst of this busy world and its hurried pace, I choose to slow.

I wait here aware of your presence and ask that you give me strength as I abide in you.

I pray that I might even come close to comprehending your incredibly deep and infinite love for me.

Through your holy spirit at work within me, I pray that I might become more like Jesus, and in my interactions with others, people would experience love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Thank you for your presence in my life.

Thank you that abiding in You
is enough.
